Anna MacDonald from Technology Networks has interviewed Sarah Teichmann about her research, and shares her thoughts on how women can build successful careers in science. The interview is available here:
The 2023 summer Teichlab retreat took place on 16 June, Friday at the cosy Chestnut Suite, Hinxton Hall.
The gathering began with an overview from Sarah, where she summarised the lab’s research themes, ongoing projects and exciting publications to come.
But the retreat wasn't all about work—far from it! We kicked off a lighthearted self-introduction session, where each lab member presented one slide to show their non-scientific side. It was filled with laughter and surprise as hidden talents and unexpected hobbies were revealed :-D
Our retreat gained further intellectual stimulation through the enlightening talks from guest speaker Dr. Claire Walsh, who shared her fascinating work in HiP-CT imaging.
In the afternoon, people dove into breakout sessions with report-backs, discussing intriguing questions as below:
How can we examine the effects of ageing across datasets?
What experiment would you do with an unlimited budget?
How to effectively use large language models in biological science?
What are the best In vitro validation models and in vivo comparisons?
As the day drew to a close, Sarah graciously hosted a delightful BBQ at her house, where lab members and their families came together to enjoy delicious food and relaxed conversations. It was a perfect moment to unwind, bond, and appreciate the unique connections we share beyond the lab.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants who contributed to making this lab retreat an intellectually invigorating and socially enriching experience. Together, we are committed to scientific excellence, collaboration, and celebration.
Cheers to memories made and the discoveries yet to come!

The Teichlab had a wonderful time at the lab Christmas lunch, held at Middleton's Steakhouse & Grill in Cambridge on 9 Dec, 2022.
The festive spirit was in full swing as we gathered together enjoying the delicious food and great company. The highlight of the event was the Secret Santa gift exchange, bringing lots of laughter and surprises!
It was a joyful celebration, filled with warmth, cheers, and the spirit of the holiday season. We also took a moment to raise our glasses and toast to the hard work and achievements of the past year, celebrating our collective dedication and accomplishments.

Valentine and Kylie were co-first authors on an exciting new paper about T-Cell differentiation, which has now been accepted in Science Immunology.
They were duly presented with the honourary and much-envied plushy Neuron and Lymphocyte for contributions to dry- and wet lab work respectively.
We have some exciting new equipment in the lab. The Teichmann Lab is the only lab in Europe to have the latest Zephyr G3 NGS Workstation!
ZEPHYR G3 NGS WORKSTATION #1 FOR PRE-PCR SINGLE CELL WORK
CALIPER GX AND ZEPHYR G3 NGS WORKSTATION #2 for post-pcr single cell work
PCRMAX ALPHA CYCLER 4 WITH A CAPACITY OF SIX 96-WELL PLATES AND TWO 384-WELL PLATES
In London on 13 and 14 October, 2016, a collaborative community of world-leading scientists [met to discuss how to build a Human Cell Atlas — a collection of maps that will describe and define the cellular basis of health and disease.
The Teichmann Lab will play a central role in this exciting new project
Felipe has published a review paper in Human Molecular Genetics about recent advances in immunity as related to single cell technologies.
